Tata Indica eV2

Overview - New Tata Indica eV2

Tata Motors has given another minor face-lift to its hot selling Indica V2 and the name has been changed to Indica eV2 where 'e' is for economical. As per the ARAI reports Indica eV2 returns mileage of 25 kmpl which makes it the most fuel efficient hatch in its segment. The base model of Indica eV2 has been priced at Rs.3.99 lakhs which seems to be very reasonable for a hatch of this size but it lacks power steering and AC.

The tag line for new Indica eV2 is - It's your answer to rising fuel prices. It's your freedom to go places".

What's New in 2011 Tata Indica eV2

-Clutch to start feature which ensures that the driver cannot crank the engine unless the clutch is fully engaged, thereby avoiding the risk of recrank when the engine is on.
- Auto drive assist feature ensures that the engine does not stall even if the foot is completely taken off the clutch pedal, enabling the driver to easily shift his foot to the accelerator when driving on hilly roads or other inclined surfaces.
- CR4 diesel engine which is very fuel efficient and generates maximum power of 70 Bhp at 4000 rpm with maximum torque of 140 Nm at 1800 rpm.
- New 14 inch alloy wheels
- Single DIN music system with USB and AUX port
- Wooden finish for the centre console
- Tachometer has been added for comfort of the driver
- Shadow beige interiors which gives airy and spacious feel
- New graphic decals on the front and rear door
- The plastic wheel arcs have been removed to give more clean look

The new revamped Indica e2 now has sports few more design cues in the form of new graphics, alloy wheels and shinier lights. Tata has really worked its boots off to make sure that this car is a formidable rival to its Korean and Japanese competition. The design and styling of this small car means that it isn't all that small after all, its design idea translates to a body which is 3.7m long and 1.7m wide with a wheelbase of 2.4m. These figures normally correspond to much bigger cars, which means that this car results in being much wider and bigger than its puny Japanese rivals. As a result of common physics though, the car ends up being 1000 Kgs, which is about 200 Kgs heavier than most of its rivals. The extra weight and the use of thicker gauge sheet metal has resulted in a car that definitely feels much sturdier than what we're used to.

With a subtle C-pillar body, Indica eV2 sports a smiling chrome front grille and eye-shaped headlamps. The body-build of this hatchback is a perfect fit for the Indian roads. The top variants of the car get body colored bumpers, body colored rear view mirrors, alloy wheels, single DIN music system, wood finish centre console, beige interiors, air conditioner, fog lamps, power windows, power steering and remote central locking. The standard safety features of all the variants of Indica V2 XETA include child safety locks on rear doors, anti-submarine seats, collapsible steering column, headlamp leveler, provision for rear fog lamps and side intrusion beam on all four doors. The electronic instrument cluster looks classy with all new tachometer with two trip meters that are equipped with light intensity controls. Apart from this, the cabin is adorned with spot lamps, lamp in luggage compartment, front door map pocket, and all-doors operated cabin lamp.

New Tata Indica eV2 is powered by CR4 diesel engine which is very fuel efficient and generates maximum power of 70 Bhp at 4000 rpm with maximum torque of 140 Nm at 1800 rpm. As per the ARAI reports Indica eV2 returns mileage of 25 kmpl which makes it the most fuel efficient hatch in its segment. The Indica eV2 features re-cranking prevention, clutch lock, tachometer, Auto Drive Assist (prevents stalling on steep inclines), new 14 inch alloy wheels, 60:40 split rear seats, Bluetooth compatible audio system, USB and Aux ports.

Press Release - Tata Indica eV2 - 10th March, 2011

Tata Motors today launched the Tata Indica eV2, the most fuel efficient car in India with a mileage of 25 kmpl, certified by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for the CR4 diesel engine. Built on the Tata Indica platform, the Tata Indica eV2 succeeds the highly successful Tata Indica, India's favourite hatchback. The Indica eV2 sports an all new CR4 Common Rail Diesel engine that has a displacement of 1396 cc delivering 70 PS @ 4000 RPM. With a higher torque of 140 NM at a lower 1800-3000 RPM, improvements in the gear ratios, starter motor protection and reduction in the weight of the car by around 10 kg, the Tata Indica eV2 ensures a better pickup. The new CR4 engine has resulted in 32% increase in power, 65% increase in torque as well as a 46% improvement on fuel efficiency. The Tata Indica eV2 is also available with the MPFI petrol engine to provide customers with a wider choice. Both these engines are compliant with BS4 emission norms.

This mileage of 25 kmpl is hinged on three technological advancements.

1) SMART EMS (Engine Management System) CHIP that involves perfectly calibrating every minute engine component to optimize functionality - Right from valve timing to compression ratios to pressure volume ratios, it flawlessly synchronizes every engine function to deliver this mileage.

2) MAXIMUM CHARGE COMBUSTION - An innovatively designed engine block and piston assembly that ensures effective intake and circulation of charge (mixture of air and fuel), thereby almost preventing friction between parts. The result is max combustion of charge, increased efficiency and power.

3) DRAG REDUCTION - Redesigned wheel arches and subtle alterations on the exterior combined with a lighter shell and engine have collectively contributed to making the car more aerodynamic, reducing the drag coefficient.

Besides, improved driveability, the new Tata Indica eV2 also offers two class defining features. The Auto-Drive Assist ensures that while climbing a gradient the engine will not stall even if the foot is completely taken off the clutch, thus enabling the driver to easily shift his foot to the accelerator. Another first is the Clutch-To-Start feature that will ensure that one cannot crank the engine unless the clutch is fully engaged, hence there is no risk of re-crank if engine is on. The interiors of the new Tata Indica eV2 are in elegant shadow beige colour. The top trim sports a wooden finish centre console and host of other features like power windows, keyless entry, Bluetooth enabled music system and USB port, 4 spoke collapsible steering wheel, tachometer, rear parcel shelf, 60:40 rear seating, front and rear fog lamps. The exterior styling gets enhanced by sporty alloy wheels, attractive decals, a new tail light cluster and rear bumper.
