Hyundai Accent (2012)

CAR GARAGE | Hyundai Accent (2012) | That largely forgettable models failed to Establish the South Korean automakers' reputation, but its Accent replacement, launched for 1995, marked a notable step forward. Redesigned for 2000 and 2006, Gaining stature each time, the 2012 Hyundai Accent is the fourth generation of Hyundai's subcompact. With its chrome-accented, hex-shaped grille, wraparound headlights, and sculpted hood creases, the 2012 Hyundai Accent exhibits what calls its fluidic design language.

Hyundai claims the redesigned Accent is more aerodynamic than a Honda Fit or Ford Fiesta. Visually, hatchback models are highlighted by a rising beltline, sculpted character line, roof-mounted spoiler, and vertical taillamps. The 2012 Hyundai Accent is 3.5 inches longer than before, on a wheelbase that's gained 2.8 inches. Front legroom has grown, and seat track (fore / AFT distance) has Increased. Cargo volume totals 13.7 cubic feet in the sedan's trunk, versus 21.2 cubic feet inside the hatchback. Hillstart Assist is installed on automatic-transmission models, for the first time.

Weighing 40 pounds less than the predecessor engine, the four-cylinder Produces 138 horsepower (up 25 percent) at 6300 rpm and 123 pound-feet of torque at 4850 rpm. The 2012 Hyundai Accent is claimed to be the only subcompact with a choice of six-speed transmissions: manual or automatic either. The manual gearbox includes an indicator EcoShift Suggests That the most efficient shift points, while the automatic has Shiftronic manual mode, for drivers prefer to change gears who on Their Own.

Automatic system has an active Eco That can boost gas mileage up to 7 percent.  Whether it's equipped with a manual or automatic transmission, the 2012 Hyundai Accent gets a fuel-economy estimate of 30 mpg in city driving and 40 mpg on the highway.  Acceleration in the 2012 Hyundai Accent is passable at low speeds, though start-up is Leisurely. Hyundai's manual gearbox is nothing special, with rather long "throws" like most subcompacts.  The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classifies Accent as a compact rather than a subcompact.

Hydrogen Hyundais Cross Europe, Longest Hydrogen Journey Ever

As an alternative to oil, hydrogen seems so promising, and yet so impossible. The only emissions from hydrogen fuel cells is water. Alas, the expense and lack of infrastructure mean they’re pretty much just a pipe dream for now. But over in Europe, two teams of drivers have driven hydrogen-powered Hyundai’s over 1,400 miles, from Scandinavia to the Rivera, powered by nothing by hydrogen.
The journey was made using a pair of Hyundai iX35 FCEV’s, and neither vehicle ever run out of fuel thanks to Europe’s growing hydrogen fuel infrastructure. Granted, the journey was plotted specifically to utilize hydrogen fuel stations, but it was a long-enough drive to make it the longest recorded journey by a car running hydrogen fuel.
Many automakers have pledged to bring hydrogen fuel vehicles to the U.S., and there are plans for “hydrogen highways” along the East Coast of the U.S. as well as across the UK. Even with the plotted course, the teams came close to running out of fuel when certain stations were closed, forcing them to find an alternative.
I won’t hold my breath for an affordable hydrogen car any time soon, but I am hopeful that within my lifetime, hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles will make up a relevant portion of the marketplace.

Hyundai Veloster Turbo Review (2013)

CAR GARAGE | Hyundai Veloster Turbo Review  (2013) | Hyundai's Veloster Ultimately Turbo will be compared with the likes of the Volkswagen Polo and Golf GTIs, Peugeot 208 GTi upcoming as well as the Renault Clio RS. For an expected starting price of below $ 35,000 (official prices are yet to be confirmed for the Australian market), the turbocharged Veloster retails well above the Polo GTI ($ 27.290) but below its bigger brother, the Golf GTI ($ 38.990). Rear-seat headroom is compromised by the slopping roofline but there is noticeably more leg and shoulder room than its light-sized hot-hatch rivals. From the outside the Hyundai Veloster is Certainly a unique proposition.

If a Volkswagen GTI with a badge appeals to you Because of its understated nature, the Veloster Turbo simply is not for you. On the inside the Veloster Turbo is very similar to its naturally aspirated variants. Our test car featured special leather sport seats with the word Turbo embedded, a slightly different interior color and the Addition of a standard sunroof. With the vehicle still a few months away from its anticipated arrival in Australian dealerships, Car Advice headed to South Korea to drive a six-speed manual Korean-specification left-hand-drive Veloster Turbo around the green and mountainous countryside.

Powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, the sporty Veloster Produces 155kW of power and 265Nm of torque. That's exactly same output power as the much larger 2.0-liter turbo found in the Golf GTI but 15nm less torque. However, the Veloster Turbo Happens to weigh roughly 100 kg less (1270kg curbs weight) than its German competitors, the which Gives it a better power-to-weight ratio, the which Hyundai claims is currently the best in its class.

Facts and figures aside, get behind the wheel and the Veloster Turbo feels just as quick as any comparably priced sports car on the market. In-gear acceleration is Relentless with the factory-made turbo kicking in at around 2500rpm and pulling hard beyond 5000rpm. Arguably the real thrill of owning a hot-hatch has never been about the 0-100km / h times unnecessary facilitate That drags at the lights, but the car's cornering ability and the go-kart steering feel That thrills around winding roads. To be clear, the Veloster Turbo is Certainly no Megane or Clio RS.

Up through Korea's Hilly and twisty countryside, we found our Veloster Turbo Could obliterate both sharp and winding corners. The Veloster's front-wheel-drive set-up is not as well as its European rivals tamed (the Kumho solus tires, 215/40R18, also leave room for improvement), but there's hardly any torque steer out of corners.  This leaves the Veloster Turbo as the flagship company's performance until the next-generation Genesis Coupe Becomes available in right-hand-drive in a few years' time. Thankfully though, the Veloster Turbo is an admirable starting point for the Korean giant. Overall, the Hyundai Veloster Turbo presents an excellent choice for a first-time or veteran hot-hatch buyer.

Hydrogen Powered By Hyundai Coming in 2013

Out of all of the auto makers Hyundai is getting the jump on the coming hydrogen fuel cell powered car game. The hydrogen-powered Hyundai Tucson ix will launch in 2013.

Hyundai, a Korean auto maker, is not the only car company to be adding hydrogen powered vehicles to its consumer retail fleet. Toyota, Honda, and GM are all planning their hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCEVs) to launch in 2015. However, Hyundai will be the first to test the market, with 1,000 units actually going on sale next year. The price tag of the hydrogen Tucson ix will be $88,550. Undoubtedly a steep price, and with the leaps and bounds in electronic vehicle (EV) technology causing lower prices for EVs, hydrogen may have missed the market. Also, if you don’t live near one of the handful of pilot hydrogen filling stations, you are SOL my friend.

Yet for all the naysayers of hydrogen — the fuel cells are expensive and hydrogen fill up stations are not very common–  the fact remains that large amounts of major car manufactures are pursuing the technology. Hyundai has not given details about where the first 1,000 hydrogen FCEVs will ship, but it is most likely that the majority will be sent to Europe.

Unlike in the U.S., hydrogen is a major emerging player in Europe, with FCEVs going beyond cars to include buses and other heavy vehicles. There are a few pilot programs in the U.S., mostly in California and New York, but hydrogen has a much more devout following in Europe.

Hyundai has definitely come a long way from the scrappy car maker they were just a decade ago. But can they become a major player in the hydrogen fuel economy? That remains to be seen. If any of the Hyundai FCEVs do come to America, they are likely to release in limited numbers in the Los Angeles area where many HFCV prototype,s including the Honda FCX Clarity, have been tested.

Hyundai will make 'limited' number of fuel-cell vehicles this year, 'thousands' by 2014

Hyundai has confirmed that it will make a "limited" number of hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEV) this year for testing purposes, with a goal of making as many as 10,000 FCEVs annually by 2015.

The South Korean automaker is testing an FCEV based on the Tucson crossover which will be part of test fleets around the world during the next couple of years. Hyundai wasn't specific about how many units of the Tucson ix Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle it will make this year.

The company is "willing to provide a sufficient number of FCEVs where hydrogen infrastructure is available during 2012-2015," Hyundai said in a statement sent to AutoblogGreen. "All we can say is that we have said we will make a limited supply in 2012, and anticipate thousands will be available globally through 2014."

Torque News reported that Hyundai would make as many as 1,000 FCEVs this year, and that the car would be priced at $88,550 before incentives and any tax credits. Hyundai is looking to cut that price to $50,000 by 2015, Torque News said.

Hyundai is among a number of automakers – Toyota, General Motors and Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler among the others – that have targeted 2015 for FCEV mass production. With such plans in place, Pike Research estimated late last year that a million FCEVs will be cumulatively sold by the end of the decade, down from Pike Research's previous estimate of about 2.8 million vehicles.
