By doing this the output was boosted from 240 to 260 PS while peak torque has become 240 Nm at 6,000 rpm, meaning the Honda Civic Type R MUGEN 2.2 is 30 percent more potent than the standard model.

Honda's brand-new 2012 Civic Hatch is just around the corner, which means it's time for one last special-edition performer: the Civic Type R Mugen 2.2.

Developed by Honda's UK arm and Mugen Euro, the Civic Type R Mugen 2.2 has had its bore and stroke increased, boosting power to 195kW - a 30 percent boost over the regular CTR. Peak torque is listed at 240Nm, up from 193Nm.

The new car also represents a small leap over the European-market 20-car Mugen 2.0 variant, which produces 180kW.

Oddly enough, four of the 20 Mugen 2.0 CTRs remain unsold, and may gain the new engine as a result (or a lower price).

How many of the bigger-engined CTR Mugen 2.2 cars will go into production is unclear, with Honda still finalising numbers and pricing.
