Karabag gives Fiat 500 an electric forklift drivetrain, makes it cheaper than gas version

Karabag has been selling conversions of a few Fiat models for a while now, but a new configuration of the 500, along with a low lease price, could see them moving more out the door. The new Karabag 500e makes use of the same electric drivetrain components that German forklift maker Linde Materials Handling employs to move about its precision workhorses.

The supply arrangement allows the elektrofahrzeug-maker to offer the Italian retro-cute for €34,999 ($46,000 U.S. at today's exchange rates) or lease it for a modest €299 ($393) a month. That price, they say, makes it cheaper to operate than the gas-powered version. (You can see how they calculate that at this Google-translated page from their website).

While the price may be moderate, so is the performance. The new 500e puts out a peak 28 kW (37.55 horsepower) and allows for a top speed of just 105 km/h (65 miles per hour). Acceleration is, um, leisurely, with 50km/h (31 mph) coming 8.5 seconds after lift off. The 11-kWh lithium-polymer battery is said to offer 100 km (62 miles) of range.

Linde has also lent a drivetrain to another vehicle with much (much!) better performance. The Linde E1 electric go kart has made the Guinness Book of Records by accelerating faster to 100 km/h (62 mph) than any battery-powered cart ever before: 3.45 seconds. If only it were street legal.

Fiat 500 Reviews and Price 2012

The Fiat 500 is a show star. Points, he can, especially with its cute looks and lovely details that take up the style of the legendary Cinquecento in 1957. Behind the beautiful facade hides a more conventional compact car that uses the technique of brother Panda brand. Unlike the cheaper five-door model is offered with three doors 500 closely and not very variable. Even sitting on the front Large Grown small little stalls comfy, adults in the rear have no more room, and the installation of child seats is difficult. Thanks to the split fold down rear seat of the small trunk can be expanded to shopping suitable size. The bottom line is the Fiat Sun primarily a single-car for the short - but an extremely lovable. Especially as a convertible with roll roofing.

Engine and chassis
For use in urban traffic is already enough of the 1.2-liter entry-level petrol engine with 51 kW/69 HP. Since this is a four-cylinder, the noise level is acceptable in a convertible. Who has higher performance requirements, can choose between two 1.4-liter petrol engines with 74 kW/100 hp and 99 kW/135 hp, which are the same but more expensive. The alternative offered 1.3-liter diesel with 70 kW/95 hp would usually come from the grueling application as a service or courier vehicles and should therefore be treated with caution. If you really want to be as efficient as possible on the way, should rather be looking for the end of 2010 introduced 0.9-liter two-cylinder gasoline engine with 63 kW/85 hp. The offer is still low.

The chassis itself is hoppelig and stuckerig. That is not even in a small car to be the case, shows the Ford Ka, which is built on the same basis as the Fiat, but has upgraded the suspension technology. In addition, the annoying large turning circle of 500, which is almost twelve feet. When it comes to longevity can not convince the technology. The TÜV complains a high defect rate on the front axle and steering - and this even at the first three years after HU. In addition, damage to wheel bearings are among the known issues.
fiat 500
The Fiat 500 Car of the Year in 2008 - not least because the jury was persuaded by the great safety features of the small cars. Five stars in the EuroNCAP crash test, and seven airbags are standard equipment for a small car quite respectable. Not all will go great with it, that the stability control only for the 1.4-liter petrol engine was available. The rest of the equipment on the other hand is fine, even the basic version of "Pop" offers up everything you need on the air conditioning.

Quality
Charmer and a pretty boy is often accused of lack of solidity. And the Fiat 500 could not deny such comments completely. In addition to the chassis as the alternator is considered vulnerable, and the exhaust system is not a paragon of durability. Known issue is also a tendency to piston seizure. When buying a used car is therefore made to the regular oil changes must be ensured.

Conclusion
The cute Fiat 500, one may see one or the other weakness. Too large but the tolerance should not be, since the micro-car is also sold as Used are to be fairly high prices. From $10,596.16 up should be invested for at least the closed version, preferably in a well-kept specimen with low mileage. The convertible weighs in at around $2,646.04 extra to book.

Fiat 500 Abarth Venom (2013)

CAR GARAGE | Fiat 500 Abarth Venom (2013) | Ok well Fiat has Decided to deliver the Abarth and placed an ad That spoke to all of us. In all honesty I think this is a great city car as it is nimble, small, and can be fun to drive on a daily basis. There will be a large third-party performance for all three of Following these cars as we hope to see bigger turbos and / or turbo kits, downpipes and freer flowing up pipes, intakes, and even racing cams and complete heads.

There has been talk of a 200hp engine in this 2013 Fiat 500 Abarth Venom and for that reason I am very interested. A car of this size with power like that is bound to make you Giddy especially if you're blasting some Wham! on the radio whilst drinking your orange mocha Appalachian.

I give Fiat a lot of shit Because They were Bringing a car to America and They first targeted the ladies as this car was so happy and cute. You Might as well have put Cher in a Fiat 500 with whores shirtless boy carrying the car through the fabulous streets of Chelsea. Now we as men have a need for speed and so to bring us to the circle of Fiat we need more power and black wheels and dual exhaust and rockets, yeah big fucking rockets.

So what do you think about the Fiat name in America and do you think That at a starting price of $ 22,000 That these are worth it. Would you rather go for a Mini Cooper S or a Mazda Miata or the BR-Z - FR-S or something else That is comparable? Let me know what you would drive. UN

Dodge Caliber Soon to be Replaced by the Dart

That news will probably come neither as a surprise nor much of a shame to many of you, as Dodge's baby hatchback hasn't exactly set the market on fire and has been representative of a time before American carmakers cared about making competitive compacts.

Detroit News has revealed that production of the Caliber ended last week, and is set to be replaced by the much more promising 40-mpg 2013 Dodge Dart, due to be revealed in full at January's 2012 Detroit Auto Show.

Intended to replace the Dodge Neon, the Caliber attempted to cash in on the crossover boom, but was uncompetitive even against some pretty average rivals.

According to Jim Hall from 2953 Analytics LLP, the Caliber was "the last of the American bottom-feeder compacts," also referencing the previous Ford Focus and Chevrolet Cobalt as "cynical thinking" products.

Hall says the Big Three were wrong to assume that consumers purchasing entry-level vehicles wouldn't know better if the products were sub-par.

Even the tire-smoking R/T model drew no more than faint praise, and Dodge will be hoping the upcoming Alfa Romeo Giulietta-based Dart will be better suited to tackle talented new rivals like the Ford Focus and Chevrolet Cruze.

Hall expects the Dart to triple Caliber sales, and green-thinking consumers will be happy with a predicted 40 MPG rating from the Fiat 1.4-liter, turbocharged MultiAir engine.

Two other engines handed down from the Caliber will also power the Dart, a 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter. The latter will also carry Fiat's efficient MultiAir technology. A choice of transmissions, both manual and automatic, will be offered.

Chrysler is clearly keen to distance the Dart from its predecessor though, going as far as to market the Dart as having "Alfa Romeo DNA".

For further details on the 2013 Dodge Dart, head over to our details preview.

Fiat Group Lowers 2012 Sales Estimate by Half a Million Units

A funny t-shirt slogan reads “aim low, achieve your targets, avoid disappointment”. But it would probably be best if you didn’t give it as a Christmas present to Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne.

The reason is that the Italian group has lowered its 2012 sales forecast of 2.7 million units by a substantial amount; the new target for next year is 2.2 million, 500,000 units short of the original estimate presented in the group's 5-year plan.

The good news is that its partner, Chrysler, is expected to hit its 2.4-million sales target. Adding up the numbers brings the Fiat-Chrysler combined sales projection for 2012 to 4.6 million units.

Fiat Group Signs Deal with Italian Union on Labor Pact

With Fiat shares losing 30% of their value in the first nine months of the year, the company's sales hitting a 20-year low point in Italy, its European market share shrinking from 8.2% to 7.3% and all of its domestic plants recording losses, CEO Sergio Marchionne has been pushing for an increase in productivity.

The workers’ unions, though, have been resisting changes, threatening with strikes and legal action against the Italian automotive group. This, along with the Italian crisis and the fact that Chrysler is the one keeping the group afloat, has led analysts to predict that Fiat may go as far as to partially abandon its home market.

Shocker: Crash Tests Reveal that Most Cars Sold in Latin America are Deathtraps on Wheels

Shocker: Crash Tests Reveal that Most Cars Sold in Latin America are Deathtraps on Wheels

The FIA Foundation announced the results of the first ever crash tests carried out by the Latin New Car Assessment Program (Latin NCAP), and the news isn’t good for consumers and automakers alike. Actually, the crash test results reveal a terrifying reality: most of the best selling cars in Latin America’s emerging markets offer minimal or no protection at all to their adult occupants let alone children...
Max Mosley, president of Global NCAP, said: “The latest results of the Latin NCAP reveal that South America’s most popular cars are still about 20 years behind the levels of safety enjoyed in Europe and North America. This cannot be acceptable.”
"We want to see the UN’s global crash test standards applied to all new cars across the world. And we want consumers to be aware of the life and death choices they make when buying a new car," Mosley added.
The 64 km/h (40 mph) frontal impact crash tests revealed that most of the cars that were tested suffered from poor structural rigidity which, along with the absence of airbags in most of them, “awarded” them an unheard-of, in the 21st century, one-star rating!
This kind of performance is indeed scary, especially when compared to models sold to the European and North American markets, where the top five-star rating for every new model, save for ultra compacts which usually score four stars, is the norm.
Whereas in North America and Europe safety agencies constantly upgrade their requirements, in most Latin American countries safety regulations are virtually non-existent.
A measure of the work that needs to be done is the fact that Argentina and Brazil will make airbags mandatory by 2014 – and that, sadly, is hailed as a sign of progress.
