Porsche is inextricably linked to Le Mans having won the famous 24-hour endurance race a record 16 times. The first win came in 1970 with the legendary 917, and the last in 1998 with the 911 GT1.

This past July, the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer announced that it will return to the La Sarthe circuit in 2014 with an official entry. Not that it has ever actually left, as numerous privately owned 911s participated each year and even the factory team won the LMP2 class in 2008 and 2009 with the RS Spyder.

So far, Porsche has manufactured two hybrid versions of its 911 GT3 R racer. The first one was revealed at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show and it featured two electric motors powered not by a battery pack, as in most hybrids, but by an electric flywheel generator located in the passenger’s seat.

In typical Porsche fashion, the “Version 2.0” of the GT3 R Hybrid was a careful evolution of the previous model, with more power and better fuel consumption while also featuring subtle changes to the cockpit to ensure less driver fatigue in endurance racers.

Geneva Motor Show: Techart Turns its Tuning Focus on the New 2012 Porsche 911

Even with only a couple of months under its belt, the tuning industry has already warmed up to the new 991-series 2012 Porsche 911, with the most recent round of enhancements coming from Techart. The renowned German tuning house has presented some subtle styling bits for both the 911 Carrera and Carrera S.
These include a new set of forged light alloy wheels in sizes of 20- or 21-in. that are said to offer a weight advantage of up to 15 percent compared to the factory rims, new sport tailpipes made of polished stainless steel with either oval or round tips, and a host of exterior trim parts in carbon fiber or any custom color.
For the cabin, Techart's current offerings include a new three-spoke steering wheel and bespoke paddle shifters, plus a variety of trims, a full leather interior with decorative stitching or a diamond design, and interior accents in leather or alcantara.
The full program, which may include performance upgrades, will be presented at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March.

Porsche’s motto of “evolution, not revolution” clearly applies primarily to the shape of its iconic sportscar, which has been its mainstay product for more than four decades.
It doesn’t necessarily extend under the skin, though: the only stipulation so far is that every 911 must have a flat-six engine placed at the rear.
Before releasing the new generation code-named 991 to the public Porsche engineers had to make sure that it would be operating perfectly under even the most extreme conditions. It’s not something novel, as most car manufacturers usually test their models rigorously to avoid costly mistakes.
Seeing Porsche engineers burning the midnight oil and rigorously testing the 911 in such diverse conditions as South Africa and the Arctic Circle, and even witnessing some components fail is, in our opinion, anything but boring.

2012 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 Limited Edition

Another new Porsche 911 made ​​its debut in the coming weeks, according to Teamspeed. We actually lost count, but the Germans from Zuffenhausen has decided to release a 911 GT3 RS Limited Edition on April 7.

New Cars 2011 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS

As standard, the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS has a six-speed manual gearbox and the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK), is available as an option. Compared Carrera S. Unique within the 911 Carrera family, the GTS combines the 44 millimetre wider body of the all-wheel drive Carrera 4 models – including widened rear track – with a classic rear-wheel drive configuration. The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS sits on 19-inch centre-locking RS Spyder alloy wheels, painted in black with high-gloss finished rims, with 235/35 ZR 19 tyres on the front axle and 305/30 ZR 19 tyres on the rear. Further features include the SportDesign front apron with spoiler edge painted in black, special side skirts also in black, and the Carrera GTS logotype on doors and rear lid, in black or silver depending on the body colour. The area between the two tailpipes on the rear apron is also finished in black.

The new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS will have its global debut at the 2010 Paris Motor Show on October 2 and goes on sale in the UK in December, priced from £76,758 for the Coupe and £83,493 for the Cabriolet.
